Going to a Muse gig is predictable, you know what the performance is going to be like...
on the 4th of September, at
Muse's Seaside Rendezvous in
Teignmouth, nothing was a surprise. The old favorites were crowd pleasers and the new stuff from 'The Resistance' were, interesting, in a pretentious, over complicated, unoriginal way - I'm sure they will get better on the ear after a few more listens (if I could be bothered). The live versions, however, sound better than the 'Queenesque' preview snippets I have heard on the web.
Muse are still one of my favorite live bands and trekking to Teignmouth was a fantastic surreal experience - this sedate Devon seaside, port side town came alive, I hope it recovers. (Teignmouth is a historic port on the mouth of the Teign estuary, having all the attractions of a seaside town, including a Victorian pier and is the birthplace of Muse.)
I'm really glad we went!
These guys are the sund of the future in my opinion. I love this band...keep up the great work!

...they are one of the most interesting bands around - I just hope, as the slumber into middle age, they don't miss the point of why they are a great band and fool themselves into thinking they are something special. Their music is well crafted but it is not inspirational nor is it life changing, they play 21st century rock and roll - it is not Rachmaninoff.
